I know, I know it’s been a while! Two & a half months to be precise. Since the time I started my blog back in 2014, I’ve never had an absence this long before. However I can assure you I have a good explanation for it. If you already follow me on YouTube then you may have seen my recent ‘What it’s really like living with Sickle Cell Anemia’ video explaining my condition in-depth and what happened to me back in December. Apologies if this is repeated content but I know most of my blog readers don’t watch my YouTube videos so it’s only fair to explain it on here, plus that was only about my condition, whereas this is more of a life update.
Back in December I got sick, not ‘feel sorry for me because I have a sore throat and runny nose sick’ more like ‘life threatening, hospitalised, drips inserted in every crevice sick’. Although I’ve suffered from Sickle Cell my whole life, since being on treatment I’ve lived a relatively normal life for the past nine years so this recent hospital admission in December really knocked me sideways in every possible way, physically and mentally! Imagine the world revolving around you whilst your bed bound, unable to move! I was unable to work, unable to blog, unable to attend events, whilst slowly watching your followers/traffic decline one by one. It definitely wasn’t a great feeling, especially for my self-esteem. The recovery process was almost as bad as being hospitalised, stuck at home 7 days a week and because my immune system was so low I was constantly getting sick. I had the flu so many times back in January, I’ve lost count!
I also made a huge decision back in December; I decided to leave my job role at Farfetch. I can hear you all gasping right now! I know, I know! It looked like the perfect job working for one of the biggest luxury retailers with so many amazing bloggers and organising so many amazing events but that was far from what it was actually like! I loved my job at the beginning but towards the end it became a very hostile and toxic environment, one that contributed towards my ill health back in December. Therefore I decided it wasn’t worth sacrificing my health for a job!
So here I am today! Back in the blogging game with all the free time in the world! I purposely waited for spring to start blogging again for obvious reasons. Ain’t nobody got time to stand in the cold posing for photos!
I’m not entirely sure what direction I’m heading towards but for now my mind, body and soul need as much rest as possible to recover from an overload of stress and ill health. Anyway who am I kidding? I’m loving the time off! Give me all the Real Housewives, Kardashians, TOWIE, MIC, Ex on the Beach and Buffy episodes to watch please! Let’s face it; sooner or later I’ll be back on the grind working my arse off 24/7 so for now I’m just chilling. Get prepared for some EPIC content on the blog, Instagram and YouTube!
Last but not least but can we please take a minute to appreciate how amazing this dress from Jane Norman is! It’s colourful, vibrant, fun and just screams fabulous!
