Happy Friday guys!
As all of you are now aware, the world of social media went into a state of shock last week when Instagram introduced the new stories feature (basically Snapchat on Instagram). Somehow Instagram has managed to plagiarize the business model of Snapchat and replicate it on to Instagram, which sent the blogosphere into a frenzie. As usual I was late to hop on the bandwagon, I didn’t receive the update till a few days in so I had no idea what all the fuss was about.
So the real question is which platform do we prefer? As a blogger, do we just stick to one or use both? And if we do decide to use both, do we use create unique content for each platform or duplicate the same content on to both platforms? Quite frankly it’s just one big mess at the moment! The general consensus within the blogosphere is that most people still prefer snapchat and will continue to use it. Well here’s my 2 cents….
If you’re an influencer then Snapchat is the way to go, you’ve already established a loyal fanbase who will follow you anywhere you go. You can avoid all of the ‘hardselling’ which is required to increase your ingstagram followers, and best of all you can continue using all the cool filters to add character to your content. However if you’re a small-time blogger like myself, then Instagram stories is the way forward! The amount of engagement you receive on Instagram stories in comparison to snapchat is insane, whatever you get on Snapchat, triple it and that’s your amount on Instagram! So that reason alone, it’s safe to say I will be sticking to Instagram stories from now on. No more hardselling and everything is under one platform so it makes more logical sense. Don’t get me wrong, I will miss the crazy filters, no more dogs or flower crowns but I’m sure it won’t be long until Instagram designs some cool features too.
