The Art of Body Shaming

Share

Happy Monday loves!

Today’s post is very different for me but one I thought I would share with you all. So if you’re a blogger (which I’m sure you are) you’re probably familiar with the biggest affiliate program worldwide – RewardStyle! I’ve only recently joined the RewardStyle family and have been a member for precisely 2 months. So when I found out my most recent outfit photo had been re-grammed on LiketoKnow.it I was literally over the moon. Only to wake up the following morning to a huge thread of hateful comments below my photo. To say I was shocked is an understatement! It got so bad that the majority of the comments were removed by the admin. There’s me thinking all these years that YouTube was the platform for hate, little did I know Instagram could be just as bad!

‘First outfit on liketoknow that I’ve really hated’, ‘awful figure, short torso’ ‘this girl looks terrible’ were some of the many comments I received and it left me flabbergasted! I’ve heard body shaming/hate was a thing but never expected it to happen to me (not because I’m above everyone else, purely because my following is so small). I call it an art because I believe these people spend years perfecting how to bash people online i.e. trolls! This topic has already been addressed by several influencers such as Inthefrow, Lauren Curtis and Natasha Ndlovu but you can’t ever relate to it unless you’ve experienced it yourself. Why grown women feel the need to sit behind a computer and hurl abuse towards fellow women is beyond me! We should be uplifting and supporting fellow women, not bringing them down! I guess the more you grow, the more you’re exposed to these pathetic trolls, therefore it’s inevitable and becomes a natural part of being an online blogger/vlogger/influencer.

In summary I’m glad this has happened to me and see it as preparation for what’s to come in the future. I think it’s important to remember that the pros always outweigh the cons in this online bloggersphere and these trolls have absolutely nothing going for them and are taking their frustrations out on people who choose to display their lives online. Haters gonna hate right?

I’m so sorry you had to experience that. People can be so hateful online. If they wouldn’t say those kind of things to someone’s face, why type it online? You’re a gorgeous, stylish girl!
