Happy Monday loves!
You’re probably thinking I resemble Pretty woman right now (well the black version at least) and I couldn’t agree with you more. This is far from my typical outfit but it’s always fun to go outside your comfort zone once in awhile.
To start, let me explain that I’ve never owned a pair of over the knee boots before in my life. I’ve always been very weary of them, for starters I already have naturally long legs and over the knee boots help to elongate your legs (something I definitely don’t need help with). Furthermore I have a very skinny frame and unfortunately for me, most brands don’t seem to cater for skinny legs/non existent calves. More than often there’ll be excess material gathering around the ankles and upper thing (never a good look). Which brings me onto the boots I’m wearing today, a trendy pair of faux suede lace-up boots from 4th and Reckless. I knew that choosing a pair of over the knee boots would be risky from an affordable brand and I was definitely correct. The fit isn’t great (very loose and baggy) but it was fun trying them out and I rocked them quite well (if I do say so myself).
There’s definitely a thin line between trashy and classy when it comes to over the knee boots. It’s heavily dependant on many factors including the boot itself and how you style it. These boots for example are definitely more on the trashy side due to the lace up detail, if you want to keep it classy I’d say go for a plain simple silhouette. Next, you really have to be careful how you style over the knee boots. Styled with fur and a tiny mini skirt you could give all the wrong signals, however styled with a shift dress and a blazer makes it daytime appropriate.
Now I’m definitely ready to invest in a real pair of over the knee boots next autumn/winter. When it comes to statement boots like this, you’re better off investing in quality to ensure the perfect fit. I’ve been lusting over the Stuart Weitzman Highland boots for the longest time and will definitely be my first luxury purchase next season!
